Hospices often lack the financial and staffing resources needed to fully support bereaved families. As with nursing, the industry-wide labor shortage has impacted bereavement care, which is an underfunded service, according to Dr. Dawn Gross, palliative care physician at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Health.

Set to open this summer, the hospice facility will feature 15 patient beds at Lourdes Senior Community in Waterford, Michigan. Expanding hospice care in the senior community will allow for improved support and care collaboration, according to Angela Hospice President and CEO Marti Coplai.

In Calendar Year 2021, the share of hospice care days with nurse visits in the last seven days of life rose to 63%, up from 62% year over year, according to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO). Through the predictive analytics data, hospice patients at St. CMS introduced SIA in 2016.

Eden Health recently announced plans to acquire Washington state-based Community Home Health & Hospice’s (CHHH) inpatient programs. Eden Health will take over Community’s inpatient services effective May 1, 2023. The home health, hospice and palliative care provider operates 36 locations and serves roughly 1,540 patients annual.
