Hospices, in aggregate, are showing improvement on the quality measure for visits in the last days of life. The number of registered nurse and social worker visits during a patient’s final week is one of the seven quality measures that CMS uses to evaluate providers. In 2019, for example, the percentage was 66%.

In 2019, leaders set up a collaborative with researchers from the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and the Bloomberg School of Public Health to diversify patient-care perspectives. To help combat the issue of burnout, Wu and his team met with a facilitator in 2019 and co-designed a wellness program called Thrive by Design.
