It was started by a social worker who really saw some gaps in care with those at end-of-life, particularly those with chronic long-term illness, having important conversations. I was alone with her in the end of a long hallway at a nursing home health center. Beth: It depends on the volunteer.

We start off part one by interviewing Michele DiTomas, who has been the longstanding Medical Director of the Hospice unit and currently is also the Chief Medical Executive for the Palliative care Initiative with the California Correctional Healthcare Services. We have nurses who have extra training in palliative care.
