During the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) (2022) estimated over 100,000 registered nurses left the profession and predicted that another 800,000 nurses would follow them by 2027. The top reasons reported for leaving were burnout, feeling undervalued, and a high patient-to-nurse ratio.

California’s law won’t go into effect until 2027 while Vermont’s began with the new year. New York is the latest state to allow “organic reduction” also known as “human composting.” The state joins five others that have approved it: California, Colorado, Oregon, Vermont and Washington. Paid leave.

Another 610,388 RNs reported an “intent to leave” the workforce by 2027 due to stress, burnout, and retirement. Among the findings: Over the past two years, approximately 100,000 registered nurses (RNs) left the workforce during the COVID-19 pandemic due to stress and burnout.
