At the same time, the ratio of potential caregivers to seriously ill seniors is expected to shrink to 4-to-1 by 2023, a “sharp decline” from 7-to-1 in 2010, AARP reported. Caregivers need practical support and guidance for their experience of taking care of this person, and for their emotional, anticipatory grief they’re feeling.

In addition to hospice, HopeWest also provides palliative care and grief support services across an 8,000 square-mile region of western Colorado. Howe has more than 14 years of experience in hospice. He was previously medical director at Compassus since 2017.

She began as a nurse at the hospice in 2010, and started her career at Berkeley Medical Center in 2008 as a primary nurse and charge nurse in the progressive care unit. Proceeds from the stores fund its grief program, Wings of Hope Family Bereavement Camps, and also help support hospice patients and families with special needs.

In 2010, he was honored at a banquet in Washington DC and awarded the Silver Helmet Award as the AMVET of the year. Since his passing they’ve continued to offer support through our time of grief. He looked forward to his Hospice visits. Volunteering was Glen’s passion. – Twila Aslesen and Family.
