More people are stepping into death doula work, according to founders of the Colorado-based organization Deathwives. Deathwives was formed in 2019.

Willow came to live with me in 2009 when she was eight weeks old. She struggled to her feet, stepped forward, and stretched her painful back legs. Her hind knees had ACL surgery when she was young and they stiffened as she aged. A snuggly brown puppy became my Soul Animal and brought new joy to my grieving heart after my husband Vic’s death.

With Goodwin Hospice patients, not as much because they have that support from the bereavement group at Goodwin Hospice. In fact, I worked for senior care options payer-provider in Massachusetts, where I am coupled end-of-life care from hospice back in 2009. It’s a story, and the story likes to be told again and again.
