New Leadership at Interim HealthCare; Former Amedisys CEO to Lead TheKey

Paul Mastrapa becomes CEO of Interim HealthCare

Jennifer Sheets is out as CEO of Interim HealthCare and Caring Brands International. Paul Mastrapa, former CEO of Help at Home, will succeed her.

The Florida-based company is a home-based care franchise that provides home health care, hospice care, palliative care, pediatric care and personal care to about 200,000 patients annually from more than 330 U.S. locations.

Its parent company, Caring Brands International, also operates Bluebird Care in the United Kingdom and the Australian provider Just Better Care.

“I’m honored to take on this new leadership role at Interim HealthCare, an organization that has an excellent reputation for clinical excellence and a strong history of serving communities with personalized care and compassion,” Mastrapa said in a statement. “With the high patient demands facing health care right now, I’m confident in the expertise of our staff and entrepreneurial energy of our franchisees to continue leading the charge in home health care.”

Mastrapa since 2021 has been an advisor and consultant to multiple health care companies. Between 2018 and 2021, he was CEO of the personal care company Help at Home.

Before Help at Home, Mastrapa led the home infusion provider Option Care Health (NYSE: OPCH).

Sheets continues to serve as board chair for the Research Institute for Home Care (RIHC) and a board member for the National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC).

Former Amedisys CEO takes the helm at TheKey

Former Amedisys Inc. (NASDAQ: AMED) CEO and COO Chris Gerard will become the next CEO of home care provider TheKey.

Gerard previously was the top executive for Amedisys between April and November 2022, succeeding Paul Kusserow following his retirement. He left after two quarters of missed earnings expectations, leading Kusserow to return temporarily until Richard Ashworth was brought in to replace him.  

Gerard had been COO of Amedisys from 2016 to 2022.

“I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Chief Executive Officer at TheKey!” Gerard wrote on LinkedIn Monday.

Florida-based TheKey is a provider of home care, memory care and specialized care services in more than 100 markets throughout the U.S., Canada and Australia. Globally, its 10,000 caregivers provide services to more than 100,000 seniors.

New CEO at Hospice of Jefferson County

Anna Patterson will become the new CEO of Hospice of Jefferson County in New York state. She succeeds Diana Woodhouse in the role, upon her retirement.

Patterson is currently the executive director of the senior living operator Ives Hill Retirement Community and the Lodge at Ives Hill. She will take the lead at Hospice of Jefferson Country when Woodhouse departs in August.

“Diana’s passion for hospice service is unparalleled. During her tenure, she strove to make services more accessible to our community and successfully led a team of highly skilled staff and volunteers to achieve the best in end-of-life care and award-winning levels of customer satisfaction,” Maureen Cean, president of the hospice’s board, said in a statement. “The Board of Directors is confident that Anna Patterson will ably take up the reins and continue Hospice of Jefferson County’s service to our community at the highest possible levels.”

Androscoggin appoints new chief clinical officer

Androscoggin Home Healthcare & Hospice has tapped Carol Weir, a nurse, as its new chief clinical officer.

The appointment follows an extensive national service and review by a 40-person selection committee convened by the home health and hospice provider.

Weir was previously an executive director for LHC Group, now a subsidiary of the UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH).

“Carol is an experienced health care executive whose heart has never left the patient’s home or bedside,” Ken Albert, president and CEO of Androscoggin, said in a statement. “She is known as a visionary leader who uses data and creative innovation to solve the challenges facing health care providers. I also find her to be a warm, respectful, and kind person with a great sense of humor: a winning combination.”

Maine-based Androscoggin provides home health, hospice, palliative care, behavioral health, private duty and personal care services throughout its home state.
