Canyon Home Care & Hospice Acquires Arizona Physician Practice

Utah-headquartered Canyon Home Care & Hospice has acquired Arizona-based internal medicine practice Thomas G. Dallman, M.D., LLC for an undisclosed sum.

The move expands Canyon’s existing footprint in the Grand Canyon State and adds weight to its overall growth strategy. Established in 2012, Canyon’s service region stretches across locations in Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho and Nevada.

“We are thrilled to join together with the Thomas G. Dallman, M.D., LLC medical practice,” said Canyon Managing Partner Eddie Norris in an announcement. “Both organizations have similar goals and a shared dedication to keeping people healthy and providing high-quality, value-based care to the communities we serve. We’ll combine unique strengths to offer patients in the Bullhead City community outstanding health services and care.”

Acquiring the internal medicine practice is part of Canyon’s mission to “drive innovation” and “increase access to high-quality health care,” the company indicated.

The acquisition comes on the heels of Canyon’s recent acquisition of Utah-based Uintah Basin Health and Hospice. The deal was intended to improve care collaborations, quality and reduce reliance on expensive facility-based care for seniors in Utah, according to the Canyon.

The Thomas G. Dallman, M.D., LLC internal medicine practice has provided long-term, comprehensive care to patients in the Bullhead City, Arizona, area for more than 35 years. The practice is affiliated with the Valley View Medical Center and the Western Arizona Regional Medical Center.

Clinicians at the practice provide diagnostic, preventive, and ongoing medical care to pediatric and adult patients with both common and complex illnesses. Internists specialize in caring for patients with cancer and infections or diseases affecting the heart, blood, lungs, kidneys, joints, or digestive tracts.

“We look forward to partnering with Canyon Home Care & Hospice to expand the care that we can provide in our great and growing community with the same caring and compassion that we have always strived for,” said CEO Dr. Thomas Dallman.

After the acquisition is completed, the practice’s clinicians will join Canyon’s ranks of roughly 1,000 staff that provide community-based home health, hospice, personal and pediatric care services. It also offers pharmacy and durable medical equipment services.

Canyon’s network includes 15 home health and hospice locations, seven pharmacies, a nurse practitioner practice and three durable medical equipment locations.

Similar to national trends, demand for serious illness and end-of-life care is expected to swell due to favorable demographics in the Grand Canyon State.

Arizona’s roughly 1.3 million seniors represent 18.3% of its overall population, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. By 2050, nearly 2.5 million people in the state will be 65 and older, projected the Arizona Department of Health Services.

Arizona ranks third in the nation in hospice utilization. More than 58% of Medicare descendants in the state elected hospice during 2018, according to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.
