Here are some absolutely wonderful books for my Holiday Book Review. Whether you need a last-minute gift or the best book ever for that special loved one or caregiver, or you want to snuggle up with a great read yourself, there is something here for everyone. Enjoy these reviews!

Your Caregiver Relationship Contract: How to Navigate the Minefield of New Roles and Expectations, by Debra Hallisey is a must-read for every caregiver. It now sits on my bedside table for my comfort and clarity. Written by a caregiver of caregivers, Hallisey shares her wisdom, and hope for caregivers in need of guidance, clarity, and practical ways to navigate the caregiving journey. This guide covers the entire caregiving journey from the problems it presents to possibilities it uncovers, offering solutions, solid strategies, and most importantly the proof that you are not alone.

Whether you practice yoga like a pro, are a seasoned yoga teacher, or just starting yoga, Threads of Yoga: Themes, Reflections, and Meditations to Weave into Your Practice by Pamela Seelig is a wondrous guide to the inner magic yoga can offer not only to your body but to your spirit and soul. The perception that yoga is all about physical expression and poses tells half the story, and this lovely book is chock full of spiritual prompts and inspiration to take your yoga journey to new places. Seelig offers insight into the actual meaning and wisdom of yoga, offering themes, reflections, and mediations that bring together the physical embodiment with the spiritual intention. Anyone who wishes to learn the true meaning of peace and serenity will find a clear guided path in this book.

Most of us suffer from trauma in some form or another. According to Radhule Weininger, MD, Ph.D., we all have LRPPs or Long-standing, recurrent, painful patterns of hurt, and these ancient hurts can cause us to stay stuck in pain for a lifetime. Weininger has written a powerful book entitled Heart Medicine: How to Stop Painful Patterns and Find Peace and Freedom, at Last. She not only defines trauma and its devastation; she offers a way to heal it. Through fascinating stories, healing meditation, and dynamic bodywork exercises, she offers a path to healing our pain and our past. This is a meaningful and practical guide to changing your life.

At Heavens Door: What Shared Journeys to the Afterlife Teach Us About Dying Well and Living Better by William J. Peters, is a magnificent look at the world of shared death and end-of-life experiences. Peters, a grieving and end of life therapist with degrees from Harvard and UC Berkeley has complied fascinating research and stories from all over the world about the phenomenon of witnessing the death of a loved one and sharing in an otherworldly and divine experience as it happens. The profound impact of this experience is recorded and described with deep respect and awe and leaves the reader with a clearer picture of what happens when we die. This book gives the gift of hope about the beauty and peace of the afterlife.

Caregiver’s Best Friend: 2021-2022 Planner and Journal carefully and lovingly written and designed by Rani and her husband Roshan was inspired by Rani’s desire to provide a resource to caregivers that she found so useful as she cared for both of her parents after their cancer diagnosis. Especially during the impact of Covid, this useful, practical planner is a must-have for busy caregivers who want to stay organized and balanced. In addition to providing daily, weekly, and monthly planning, medications, contacts, tasks, and goals can all be recorded and stored in one place for easy access. This would be a perfect gift for your favorite caregiver.
