Nurse Malgorzata Rega at Gouverneur Health in New York City approaches each day with energy and passion for her job as a registered nurse. She appears to be dancing up and down the halls from patient to patient as she eagerly greets them, accessing their needs for the day is how patient Mark Gafur describes Nurse Rega.

We’re thrilled to honor Nurse Rega as our Nurse of the Week.

Gafur is a former minor league baseball coach for the Florida Marlins, a veteran teacher of 20 years, President of the Patient Council, and a patient on the ninth floor at Gouverneur Health. He’s grateful for Nurse Rega, not only because she encompasses all the basic skills a nurse provides but because she’s a master of the finer arts of nursing, challenging individuals whose reasons for a nurse go far and wide.

“The example set by Nurse Rega should be introduced early in nursing school. She’s consistent in caring and nurturing during her time as my caregiver, but she doesn’t limit it to just me. She’s that way with every one of her patients, and working in a setting when today might be a patient’s last is how they’ll spend their final moments,” says Gafur.

She cares for 25 patients, along with CNAs, nursing care facilitators, and doctors, to ensure the patient’s care and well-being. Gafur says Nurse Rega promotes a positive attitude in everything she does during her time with each patient.

“Nurse Rega has a heart of gold and is a nurturing individual helping patients have a positive experience in this type of nursing facility. And for her hard work helping make each day be their very best, she’s my Nurse of the Week,” says Gafur.
