Hospices Seek to Improve Health Equity Among Tribal Communities

A lack of culturally inclusive care and mistrust of the health system are contributing to low hospice utilization among Native Americans. Native Americans are the least likely to enroll in hospice among racial and ethnic groups. Many in that community also lack access due to geographic and financial barriers. They comprised 0.4% of all Medicare hospice patients in 2018, according to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO).

Enhabit Acquires Home Health Agency from Southwest Florida Provider

Enhabit, Inc. (NYSE: EHAB) has acquired Southwest Florida Home Care, Inc.’s home health agency in Fort Myers for an undisclosed sum. The transaction expands Enhabit’s home health footprint in Florida to 22 locations. Acquisitions have been on the menu since day one for Enhabit, which spun off from Encompass Health (NYSE: EHC) in July. The close of Q3 marked the company’s first quarter as a separate entity.
