Connecticut-based Regional Hospice recently opened a new grief support center to extend its bereavement services further across the state’s northwestern region.
The new facility, dubbed The Center for Hope & Healing, is located in Washington Depot, Connecticut. Grief counseling support groups, spiritual renewal sessions, meditation, sound healing and massages are some of the services offered at the center for families and caregivers coping with a loved one’s loss.
The opening expands upon the nonprofit hospice’s existing bereavement services, according to Regional Hospice President and CEO Cynthia Emiry Roy.
“Knowing that grief can be overwhelming physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually – and unique to each person – we provide ongoing support tailored to individual needs,” Emiry Roy told Hospice News. “In addition to our support groups, our new center offers spiritual therapies such as prayer, meditation and sound healing and serves as a peaceful nurturing space meant for healing. It is only through the generosity of our donors that programs like Healing Hearts are available to loved ones left behind.”
The new grief support facility is an extension of the organization’s bereavement Healing Hearts Program, which offers services to families experiencing the recent loss of a loved one, regardless of whether they received hospice care at Regional.
The center marks the latest move in Regional Hospice’s strategic growth plans.
Established in 1983, Regional Hospice provides community-based care to adults and children in roughly 60 communities across three counties in Connecticut. The nonprofit hospice additionally offers inpatient services at its Center for Comfort and Healing and in its inpatient units Norwalk Hospital and New Milford Hospital.
Regional Hospice opened the inpatient unit at New Milford last fall in partnership with Nuvance Health. The health system also designated Regional as its preferred hospice provider in the state.
Establishing the unit, which features two private suites, was in part a move towards forming a “collaborative care model” to better support community needs, Emiry Roy previously told Hospice News.
Two years prior in 2020, Regional Hospice launched plans to build an inpatient children’s wing at its Center for Comfort and Healing, growing its pediatric hospice programming.
Construction for the North Star wing is underway. The space will offer youth populations and their families much needed support, according to Emiry Roy.
“Grief and bereavement counseling and support is a critical piece of Regional Hospice’s holistic approach to compassionately caring for our patients and loved ones,” Emiry Roy said. “For the past 25 years, our Healing Hearts Program, has been the only one of its kind to service Western Connecticut and nearby New York.”
