This is the second PACE center that the nonprofit senior care health system has opened and the first such program in its home county, Hillsborough. Empath’s first center, Suncoast PACE, launched in 2012. Empath Health is in the process of pursuing an affiliation with Florida-based Trustbridge, expanding its footprint in the state.

The number of people who suffer from heart failure is expected to rise by 46% between 2012 and 2023, the American Heart Association (AHA) reported. As of 2020, those individuals represented only about 10% of Medicare decedents who elected hospice, according to the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO).
